Welcome to Lakewood United Church of Christ. We are located near the Lakewood City Commons
and Belmar, Lakewood's downtown area,
south of 6th Ave., between Wadsworth Blvd. and Garrison St.

Welcome!

Lakewood UCC is a vibrant, inclusive, progressive Christian church committed to making disciples, making connections, and making a difference. These are exciting times at Lakewood UCC as we journey together with our pastor, the Rev. Curtis Preston.

Lakewood UCC is a diverse congregation seeking "to develop our faith in God, enabling us to know the abundant life Christ promised by nourishing our spiritual journeys, fostering community, inviting others to join on the journey, and going forth into the world through service to do justice, love others and promote peace."

What does this mean to us? It means that we have vibrant and vital worship full of old and new music, grounded in prayer and relevant sermons that connect with everyday life. It means we care for and support one another as we each strive to find meaningful ways to live out Jesus' call to "come and follow." It means we are engaged in carrying the best of the past with us as we search out new ways to engage in ministry. It means we believe that diversity strengthens our unity in Christ. It means that when the worship is over, the service begins.

If you are a person of deep faith or shallow faith, old faith, new faith or renewed faith, questioning faith or no faith at all, we hope you'll come by and join us on the journey.

When you visit:

You'll be greeted by friendly, smiling faces. The greeters will be happy to direct you to the worship space, or to anything else you might need before the service begins.
The children (pre-K through 3rd grade) will join in the sanctuary with their families for the first few minutes of the service and then will go to Building Blocks of Faith at 10:25.

People generally gather in the sanctuary for worship about ten minutes after 10. There is music playing while we get settled in our seats. We begin with a pastor welcome and our announcements right at 10:15.

The service includes prayers, Bible readings, and time for both reflection and sharing. Music is an important part of our service. The Chancel Choir, Bell Choir, Just Strings, Women's Choir, and/or Men's Choir lead our traditional service. Once monthly, Anne Rowland & Company play their guitars for a more contemporary service. Occasionally there will be an instrumentalist, child and/or adult. Open Communion is celebrated on the first Sunday of each month.

The reflection and message (sermons) are focused on connecting our everyday lives with faith and with the Bible. We hope that what you hear on Sunday will be useful during the week, and will bring you hope and joy. Most of all, we want to help you feel a sense of connection with God, who loves us all, and with a friendly supportive community of faith.

We know that you are looking for a place that you and your children can feel comfortable, safe and welcome. You can wear clothing that is comfortable for you - some of our folks wear suits and dresses, but many wear jeans and casual shirts. You can feel assured that your children will find that Sunday School is a welcoming place to learn. Our staff and volunteers have completed the Safe Church training. And whenever anyone has questions or concerns, we are eager to listen and help.
