Last summer, when the George Floyd protests were still happening in many cities, the Mission, Outreach, and Evangelism Board set out to offer the Anti Racism Book Group as a resource for our congregation to learn more. The books we have been reading have all been by Black authors, talking about the Black experience with a range of perspectives: from deeply personal to deliberately heuristic. These have allowed those within the group to have rich conversations about our own life experiences and examine what it means to take steps from “I’m not racist” to “I live in a world that still has racist systems in place, so I want to be consciously anti-racist.” Reading and discussion can be great steps in that journey! We hope you’ll join us.
The upcoming schedule for the Anti-Racism Book Group is as follows:
April 22: Eloquent Rage – Brittney Cooper
May 27: The Nickel Boys – Colson Whitehead (Pulitzer Prize winner)
June 24: No Ashes in the Fire – Darnell Moore
July 22: Caste – Isobel Wilkerson (Oprah Book Club Choice)
August 26: Red at the Bone – Jacqueline Woodson (NY Times Bestseller)
