On Holy Thursday, sometimes called “Maundy Thursday,” we recall the Last Supper, as well as the betrayal and arrest of Jesus. The word “Maundy” is rooted in the Latin word “mandatum” which means: “to give, to entrust, to order.” According to John’s gospel, on the night of the last supper, Jesus gives his disciples a commandment: “that you love one another; even as I have loved you, you also ought to love one another” (John 13:34).
We begin this service at 6:00 pm in the Fellowship Hall with a frugal meal of soup and bread, moving to the sanctuary at 7:30 for our Tenebrae Worship and Communion. The Frugal Meal and Worship service are each a separate event, so feel free to come to one or both of these offerings.
